Which way to turn the Auto Tensioner to loosen belt?

I have a 2002 Toyota camry (4 cyl). I want to change the serpentine belt(Only 1 belt). So I want to know which way do I turn the auto tensioner(spring loaded) to loosen the belt. Please answer if you know. Every car is different. Thanks

All you need is a 3/8 drive breaker bar and a short piece of pipe. insert drive into tensioner down by pulley, add pipe on end for extra leverage, push or pull to relieve tension, remove belt. release tension.

Place new belt on, move tensioner by breaker bar so belt can be installed, release tension, remove tool

If you can't work out which way the tensioner loads the belt you shouldn't be attempting to change it, but if you must, then a tip, sketch all the pulleys and run of the belt, to aid fitting of new belt,(it could save a lot of hair pulling later)
You should be able to figure this out pretty easy if you turn to the left and the belt gets tighter and you aren't able to move it then it goes to the right to loosen and install the new belt.
That belt drives most of the engine. Unless you have sufficient experience, I'd recommend allowed an expert do the work.
Turn it so the pulley moves away from the belt.
can go two ways one is tight other loose not hard to see which is loose

pull hard one way no loose try other way simple
